Exploratory Surgery planned

Cade had his 3rd visit to the specialist today. This time the doctor noticed Cade's "birth mark" on his left hand. Actually, it's a Strawberry Mark or Hema something or other. Anyway, this was apparently a really big clue to Cade's breathing problems. The long and short of it is the specialist thinks Cade may have a strawberry mark in or near his voice box. He said 50% of children with strawberry marks on the "inside" have them on the "outside" too. So on the morning of October 22nd, he'll have this exploratory surgery done to confirm it. The doctor said most of the time the masses are small and go away with time. However, he said sometimes they do have to laser them because they are bigger. At some point in time they are supposed to get bigger before they get smaller. The one on his hand is expected to go away by the age of 2.

It's also highly probable that if he does have this, that he probably never had the croup. The symptoms were just similar. He really thinks we should also have this done because winter is coming and RSV season. He wants to make sure those don't compound the issue and mask or make matters worse. He said when dealing with babies and breathing issues, you don't wait till it gets worse before treating it. He also said the risk of anything really bad happening from this was one in 3 million. We'll get to see the pictures that they take as well. This is actually the same procedure Cade went through on his 1st visit with the specialist. Only this time they'll put him out for it and will take the camera through his nose and into his voice box and lungs. It is an out patient procedure so he's expected to come home with us that night. From the sounds of it, even if they think it is too large and they want to laser it out, they will reschedule for that to happen. I'm sure there will be more forms to sign for that procedure!

Oddly enough, I was born with a strawberry mark on my back. They ended up removing it when I turned one. So I don't know if it is hereditary or not, but if it is, he probably got it from me. Although I didn't have any on the inside that we are aware of.

So Monday, October the 22nd it is. Doyle will be home. So that is good. Sorry no pictures as of late. I haven't downloaded the last set into the computer yet. I'll try and get some posted in the next couple of days. Oh yeah, just want to thank everyone for their birthday greetings! I received lots of emails, messages and cards. Thanks for helping make my day special!

Until later... have a great night!
