Cade's surgery

Everything went very well with the surgery. The nurses were all amazed at what a good little boy Cade is. He really has a very high pain tolerance level. He definitely didn't get that from me! Anyway, the long and short of it is that during the procedure, the Dr. noticed Cade does have a smaller than normal windpipe. He ordered a cat scan for Cade next. Originally, we thought we would have to reschedule for that, but while we were waiting in Cade's recovery room, they said we could do it right then. So off we went. We should find out the results from that by Wednesday.

Here are some pictures from the procedure.

In the picture above, the little white things on the side of the opening are his vocal cords. Apparentely, the size of this opening should be about the same size as the opening below his vocal cords.
The above picture is the opening that is smaller than normal. The doctor noticed the flesh surrounding the opening was pulsating. He had two conclusions about this. One, is that there might be a vascular ring surrounding the opening, not letting the opening get bigger. The CT scan should show whether this is the case or not. Or, his 2nd conclusion is that given time, the opening will grow larger and his breathing will become normal. So we are in a wait to find out more.

This picture shows the opening to his lungs. The doctor thought this looked normal.

Cade has been a little cranky this evening but not too bad considering all he went through today. I'll update you when I know more.
